.:CHASTAIN COMMON:. This design/build addition was conceived to remove an improperly built, very tall deck, and to stabilize the erosion that was beginning to wash away the foundation underpinnings that supported the house due to negligent building development and poor soil/water conservation methods. The result was the increase of 1,500 sq. ft. of rear yard, and the construction of a large screen porch and deck. Total remodel was over $100,000. Location in Atlanta, Georgia. This design/build project required the construction of a 100 foot retaining wall which elevated the rear yard by almost 4 feet, and installing 6 foot tall concrete piers permitted the construction of the rear screened porch and deck. Construction of the screen porch incorporated traditional classical design with an edge of modern to provide an elevated view of the sky with screens, and a large deck with easy access to the rear yard for the children. This build/design also provided unusual lighting for evening use and was incorporated into the architectural details for dramatic light effects.
